ISTE 2: Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
ISTE 2 focuses on how teachers plan to design, develop, and evaluate the individual learning experiences and formal or informal assessments by using the present day tools to get the most out of the content. Using technology for learning and assessing creates a new type of classroom by being both home and in school. This also creates easier to find information and creativity within lessons. This standard changes the culture of the classroom from teacher directed to student directed. Using technology creates the student in control of their own learning with an end result in mind. Some examples of using this standard are WebQuests and Thinglinks. I personally like WebQuests the most. The reason for this is the end goal is the assignment is provided at the beginning. The WebQuest also provides websites that the teacher has deemed credible to help with the research, but it is up to the students to do the research. This creates a self responsibility for each of the learners to do the research and create autonomous learners. Thinglinks are good for students as well. These are WebQuest, except the information is on one page. This creates simplicity of students and can be used for younger students to limit the complexity of a WebQuest. The Thinglinks are great as they are interactive within the web page.
